The  Law Project provides high-quality, pro bono transactional legal counsel for nonprofit organizations and small businesses.  We work in collaboration with private bar attorneys to provide the legal tools necessary for our clients to build strong organizational foundations and move forward with the good work that they do.

In addition to our direct legal services programs, The Law Project also provides regular workshops and trainings on legal issues affecting nonprofit organizations and small businesses.

The Law Project does not typically handle disputes or litigation.

Client & Volunteer Reflections

"Volunteering my time with the Law Project was a win-win. I helped my client purchase her first home, and I learned how to transact a real estate closing with the guidance of a TLP lawyer who helped me avoid all the pitfalls."
~ Jeffrey E., Pro Bono Volunteer Attorney
"Volunteering for The Law Project is an excellent and otherwise unavailable way for me to apply my professional skills directly to assist members of my community. Helping someone purchase their first home is both a challenge and a thrill."
~ Michael D., Pro Bono Volunteer Attorney, Sidley Austin, LLP
“Because of The Law Project we were able to complete the merger. Their professionalism and dedication and ability to successfully match nonprofits with legal support was critical in helping us conduct the merger.”
~ Mark R., Changing Worlds
"We are very grateful to Jenner & Block and The Law Project... As a result of the help Rimland Services NFP was able to obtain three homes for community living for adults with autism."
~ Carolyn Z., Rimland Services NFP
"I find volunteering for TLP to be quite rewarding. The staff and clients make it a unique experience. The staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help wherever needed to complete the project. It is very apparent that the staff truly cares about the clients and this makes a big difference."
~ Shelly H., Pro Bono Volunteer Attorney, McDonald's Corporation
"If it had not been for the assistance we received from your organization, we may not be where we are today."
~ Crystal B., Our Village, Our World, Inc.
"I thought it was extremely useful for people who are ready to start a nonprofit or take a leadership role in a nonprofit. The workshop focused on the real nuts and bolts of establishing a 501(c)(3), such as registering with the state, filing with the IRS, and filing yearly reports. You could literally leave the workshop ready to file the paperwork."
~ Lily J., DePaul University 3L and Workshop Participant
